Welcome to the Helston Plougasnou Twinning Association
Stop press! We are delighted to say that our next twinning adventure has been organised - a group of 13 people - young and old - are visiting Plougasnou in May to find our more about what our friends across the Channnel are doing to help combat climate change. This is the direct result of a successful bid to the British Embassy in Paris who were looking to fund trips such as this and were impressed with the application made by Plougasnou and Helston.
We are also hosting a group of 19 vistors from Plougasnou in April. As well as the work of Helston Town Council and HCAG (Helston Climate Action Group) the visitors will visit a recycling plant, the Cornish Beaver project at Ladock, a local organic farm and the Green Waste Company in Hayle. They will sample local food and stay in private homes during their visit.
So, where did it all start? Plougasnou wrote to the council requesting a twinning with Helston in 2010. This was passed to the Helston and District Town Twinning Association (HDTTA) to investigate and subsequently a delegation from Plougasnou visited us in May 2010 and in September a delegation from Helston visited Plougasnou.
As a result, a formal Twinning agreement was signed by the Mayor of Helston, John Boase, and The Mayor of Plougasnou, Yvon Tanguy, in June 2011, It was re-signed in Helston in September of that year, by The Mayor of Helston and M. André Constant representing Plougasnou’s Mayor.

Both the Twinning Associations in Helston and Plougasnou are keen to strengthen the twinning links with each other by bringing likeminded people together and encouraging clubs, associations, youth groups and schools to explore the possibilities of making visits. The Plougasnou twinning group raises funds to cover the costs of visits of groups from Plougasnou and by hosting visitors in our own homes, many strong friendships are made.
